Supplying Energy to Key Markets
Brunei LNG’s primary product is Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG), produced at its 130-hectare plant in Lumut. The facility operates five liquefaction trains capable of processing up to 9,700 cubic metres of gas per day, with natural gas supplied by Brunei Shell Petroleum Company Sdn Bhd (BSP) and the Block B Joint Venture (BBJV). This translates to an annual production capacity of approximately 7.7 million tonnes of LNG.
LNG is stored in specially designed storage tanks, before it is transported via insulated pipelines to our offshore jetty and loaded onto dedicated carriers to customers across the Asia-Pacific region. A portion of the natural gas is also conditioned and delivered to the Department of Electrical Services (DES) power plants in Lumut for domestic energy generation.
In addition, Brunei LNG is the sole producer of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) in Brunei Darussalam, supplied locally through Brunei Shell Marketing Sdn Bhd (BSM).
With a growing and diversified customer portfolio, Brunei LNG continues to expand its reach across both established and emerging energy markets.

Liquefied natural gas (LNG) is the main product produced by Brunei LNG. Brunei LNG’s 130-hectare plant has five liquefaction trains capable of processing 9,700m3 of gas per day, with natural gas supplied by Brunei Shell Petroleum Company Sdn Bhd (BSP) and Block B Joint Venture (BBJV) comprising of Total E&P Borneo BV, Shell, and Petroleum Brunei.
One of Brunei LNG’s storage tanks that stores LNG at -162°C before it is transported via insulated pipelines to our offshore jetty and loaded onto LNG ships to be transported to our customers in the Asian region.
This gives an annual plant capacity of around 7.7 million tonnes of LNG. The LNG is stored in specially designed storage tanks prior to shipping by dedicated LNG tankers to the customers in the Asian region. Part of the feed is conditioned and exported to the
Department of Electrical Services (DES) power plants located in Lumut.
Brunei LNG is also the current sole producer of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) in Brunei Darussalam, as a byproduct of LNG for domestic sales by Brunei Shell Marketing Sdn Bhd (BSM).

LNG Chain
Brunei LNG manages a robust customer portfolio ranging from end users, portfolio players and traders. As the business develops, Brunei LNG continues to diversify, grow, and expand its contractual reach, from its traditional regions to emerging markets.
Gas Suppliers
A complex network of platforms off Brunei Darussalam’s coast produce gas, compress it where necessary, and pipe it to LNG plant at Lumut.
Most of the gas for LNG comes from three fields in Brunei Shell’s western area of operation, South – West Ampa, Fairley and Gannet. Beginning 1st April 1999, gas to BLNG will come from Jamalul Alam and Maharaja Lela fields of BBJV.
Gas Liquefaction
At the LNG Plant on the coast of Lumut five liquefaction trains remove impurities from the gas, dehydrate it and cool it to its liquid state at -162°C when it occupies one six hundredth of its volume as gas.
LNG Shipping
LNG is delivered to customers every two or three days, over 14-day round trips, including one-day loading in Lumut, six days sailing to Japan and another day unloading before the six-day return leg.
The vessels measuring 147,000m3 – 154,800m3 are managed by Brunei Gas Carriers Sdn Bhd.
