The Plant

Enabling Safe and Reliable Operations

Brunei LNG Plant

Located in Lumut, the Brunei LNG plant is a cornerstone of the nation’s energy landscape, employing over 600 skilled personnel and producing up to 7.7 million tonnes of liquefied natural gas (LNG) annually.

The 130-hectare facility underwent a B$500 million rejuvenation programme, encompassing a full refurbishment of its five liquefaction trains, process facilities, and utilities. The project also delivered two new storage tanks, a modern loading jetty, and a digitally integrated control system.

Powering the plant is an energy system equivalent to a 300 MW power station, supplied by nine steam boilers driven by fuel gas — including recycled boil-off gas recovered from storage and loading. This design enhances operational efficiency and reduces waste.

The Lumut Cogeneration Plant

The Lumut Cogeneration Plant, a joint initiative with the Government of Brunei Darussalam and Brunei Shell Petroleum, further optimises resource use. It generates electricity for nearby industrial and residential areas while supplying waste heat for steam generation at the LNG plant.

Water use and sustainability are managed through an integrated system drawing approximately 2,000 cubic metres per hour from the Badas River. The water is treated, re-circulated, and reused to support cooling, process, and utility operations.

Today, the Brunei LNG plant continues to set standards in reliability, safety, and energy efficiency, reinforcing its role as a key contributor to the nation’s energy industry and export economy.
